Navionics Digital Charts

Navionics digital nautical charts are S-57 vector charts that are privately produced by Navionics SpA. Navionics provides a seamless cartographic database with global coverage; the largest privately owned database of its kind in the World.

NOTE: Navionics digital charts are not updated or maintained in accordance with SOLAS requirements and must not be used as a replacement for up-to-date and authorized official nautical charts or ENCs. Only up-to-date official charts (and any other required publications) contain the information needed for safe navigation. The master of a vessel is responsible at all times for using the correct information for the planning and conduct of their voyage.

Available Data Formats

ChartWorld offers Navionics digital charts in encrypted S-63 and in encrypted directENC (SevenCs SENC) format.

S-57 is the IHO data standard used for the exchange of unencrypted digital hydrographic data between national Hydrographic Offices and it is a valid data format used by some HOs (most notably NOAA) for the distribution of digital chart data and products.

S-63 is the IHO standard for encrypted S-57 and is the most widely used data format for the distribution digital nautical charts for ECDIS and ECS. Users of S-63 compliant ECDIS and ECS systems have a unique 'S-63 user permit' that is used by the data supplier to produce unique 'Chart Permits' that allow the encrypted digital charts to be imported and displayed the encrypted charts.

directENC (dENC) is SevenCs proprietary data format and is effectively S-57 or S-63 data that has been pre-compiled and optimised for use in ECDIS and ECS systems that are based on the SevenCs EC2007 ECDIS Kernel.

dENC has been tested and approved by the Federal German Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) to provide "a complete storage and availability of information content of ENC data format S-57, Edition 3.1 without changes and losses".

The primary benefits of dENC are simplified chart management and significantly faster chart import. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for details of dENC compatible systems.
